We do not pretend to know everything and to be experts in everything. Thus, it is this awareness of our limitations that is our great strength at LabNco. ; it forces us to be rigorous, careful and humble. This is why we integrate and cross the most relevant knowledges, expertises and datas from the various stakeholders of a project, in order to have the most accurate understanding of the situation. Our participative approaches put in dialogue (via committees or other focus/think thank groups) our clients, often decision-makers or owners, with scientists and experts, as well as with users, employees and the general public (as needed). The committee formed will validate or invalidate, continuously during our processes, the understanding that we have over issues or challenges. It will also validate or invalidate the potential solutions proposed. Each committee is formed at the start of a mandate and will incorporate all relevant stakeholders and people, for the duration of the mandate, to ensure the success of the project.
They understand and have knowledge of the organizational, logistical, financial nature of situations and projects. They are our main clients and those who will give the final verdict, but also, they are often the most sensitive to the big picture that we draw up with them in order to manage the risks and the success of a project.
They have in-depth knowledge of the state of current scientific, academic, normative and empirical knowledge and of the most relevant datas to take into account in order to be in line with the facts. Often specialists, they make it possible to understand in depth and details the issues, challenges, risks or opportunities that we face, as well as the state of advancement of knowledge on the subject.
They have knowledge of the on-site realt-time reality, they are the most in tune with the lived experience of a project. They are the ones to which projects are addressed (most of the time). They are therefore the main "experimenters" of our decisions, which is why their contribution is so important in order to carry out projects that have the expected effects on them.
Our role as a generalist is, like the bandmaster, to coordinate the various disciplines, knowledge and expertise in order to transform the noise created by the large amount of information collected, generated and exchanged, into a harmonious project. We therefore act as an expert "synthesizer" capable of; translate the messages and visions of all, establish the dialogue between the different discourses, resolve the paradoxes and contradictions encountered, and finally, generate the best possible proposals in a coherent whole. Our expertise is that of developing and building the common vision around which all stakeholders will consciously adhere and act, and around which interventions will be articulated.
Frédéric trained as a computer system engineer at ÉTS and pursued graduate studies in neurophysiology at McGill University. Since then, Frédéric has continued to develop his passion by aligning his professional career towards the study and development of applied psychophysiology. His research first focused on the visual system. He was seduced by the idea of seeing this system as an adaptive filter for information. He is also interested in data analysis using techniques borrowed from machine learning. He is also a teacher at the École de Technologie Supérieure.
His expertise has materialized in the realization of emotional, cognitive and behavioral analysis solutions applied to the human experience, which he uses to help people develop elements of interactions that stimulate the body and mind of 'a way, until now, unequaled.
He is the co-founder and technical director of RE-AK Technologies. This firm develops technological solutions which make it possible to measure and analyze the emotions and cognitive states of people in real time.
Benoit is a graduate with a Masters in Business Administration from HEC Montreal, Benoit supports and advises companies in strategy and marketing. His original career leads him to evolve in high-tech industries, such as artificial intelligence, as well as in traditional industries. Indeed, he also holds the Bordeaux Wine Diploma.
His skills make him a partner of choice in the analysis of situations and trends, as well as in the implementation of competitive recommendations. Aware of the need to obtain quality data for decision-making, he works to build personalized advice adapted to each project in order to be able to obtain the best for each of the stakeholders.
Benoit is also successful in business development and client management, he has experience in agencies, in international groups and in the field of start-ups.
Sébastien was project manager at G.M. Architectes Associés in 2007 where he mainly assisted the works management for the design and construction of the Vitam’Parc shopping, aquatic and sports center in Neydens.
Sébastien worked for Dominique Perrault and SCAU in Paris from 2001 to 2004. Previously, he had followed the construction site of the Egyptian Antiquities Department of the Louvre museum, for the Atelier de l'Ile office in Paris, where he had also followed the construction site of the Orangery of the Carnavalet museum.
Sébastien’s experience is particularly defined by large-scale projects.
Back in Quebec, he has been operating solo and for several years through professional collaborations.
Vanessa studied architecture, interior design and garden design, she pays particular attention to the comprehensiveness of a project and the overall feasibility.
Known for her thoroughness, reliability and open-mindedness, she is distinguished by her ability to manage the unexpected and work in a team so as to integrate all the components of related disciplines. In recent years, she has developed expertise in the field of major housing projects: roof terraces, layouts on deep slabs as well as layouts specific to residences for the elderly or people with cognitive loss: prosthetic garden.
Having worked in different firms, she created Kub paysage in 2017 in order to give the projects in which she is involved an orientation and aesthetic solutions related to her environmental values. It seeks to offer simple, scalable and inexpensive living environments through local choices, and it designs efficient arrangements in terms of energy, maintenance, water management and sustainability. She favors an approach to integrated projects in order to combine her expertise with that of the offices with which she collaborates.
While he was studying psychology at the University of Sherbrooke, Jean-François’s course took a turn in the world of audiovisual integration, home automation as well as lighting design, and this for nearly ten years. In 2010, this passionate about human beings returned to studies in architecture technology, which will be beneficial to him when he discovered a real fascination for architecture, interior design and overall design. .
While working for different large firms in Montreal and in France, it was at the end of 2013 that he founded his own interior design and residential architecture company under the name Studio D & A. It was finally in 2019 that Jean-François had a revelation in order to, for the first time, find how to take advantage of all the concepts and skills he had acquired over the past 20 years for the benefit of his projects and especially with a view to share and collaborate with other professionals in a more conscious way. This is how D&A then became "B-LIV | design of conscious spaces ".
An architecture technician by training, Frank worked for STGM Architects with whom he founded FIXION3D. In 2014, he founded Symbiose Design with his partner Johanie Gariépy designer. Then, more recently, he decided to found GMV3D. He specializes in producing photo-realistic renderings using different software and is able to give life to projects thanks to a superior and distinctive image quality. Through the thoroughness and passion for architecture, design and art, each project he undertakes leads to excellence. Frank is definitely the champion of 3D visualization.
It was in 2008 that Nicolas Labrie began to develop an interest in the links that exist between the built environment and human behavior as well as the human brain. He therefore gradually explored the subject which became for him a consuming passion. He also devoted his master's and his thesis to it, which was crowned best in its promotion. Over the years, he has acquired a vast amount and variety of knowledge on the subject which he has applied in his practice. In 2018, he was fortunate that this expertise was academically recognized by Laval University, which invited him to give a lecture of one session (15 weeks) on the subject. The course Human Aspects of Architecture allows students to familiarize themselves with the mutual influences that exist between the Human and its built environment. This course presents the concepts and methods useful for the study of people-environment relationships and a practice of architecture sensitive to people. It aims more particularly at understanding the fundamental notions relating to the perception of the environment, behaviors in space and life in society. It therefore combines the philosophy of humanist intervention with the scientific approach, in a mixture linking the design sciences (called "empirical"), the cognitive-behavioral sciences (called "hard or pure") and the socio-cultural sciences (called " social ").
The course of Human Aspects of Architecture also enabled Nicolas Labrie to transmit the vision of what design should be according to him; that is to say a design that is both informed and empathetic. Informed design implies being based on the most valid knowledge and the most rigorous processes, in particular those of science, and more precisely of the sciences of complexity. Empathetic design allows us to understand and consider the sensitive and subjective nature of people's experiences. It is therefore in this marriage of informed design with empathetic design that the greatest rigor of facts is combined with the greatest sensitivity to people, in order to create projects that match reality.
Labnco. is currently developing several partnerships. An important partnership is that with the firm RE-AK Technologies in order to allow the validation, via data on real experience, of the design hypotheses carried out. RE-AK develops technological solutions that measure and analyze people's emotions and cognitive states in real time. This partnership will make it possible to have a neuroscientific approach to the collection of data during project implementation, as much as post-occupation of these, in order to complement the traditional validation approaches of the "studies and surveys" types.

I started my career in 2004 as a technician in architecture. While working on multiple projects for various firms while self-employed I quickly developed a technical expertise which was further deepened over many years. This varied and demanding experience allowed me to quickly become resourceful and autonomous for residential, institutional, cultural, corporate and commercial projects.
With my early and immersive experiences, I learned how to develop a critical eye and a creative spirit in the face of various design issues and the everyday professional practice. Building on the progressive experience as a project manager and knowing how to extract the most from the interaction between acquired competencies, I stand out with my versatility and ability to merge together philosophy, architectural theory, artistic process, conceptual and narrative aspects, as well as technical coherence while working on variable project scales.
In recent years, I had the opportunity to work in following widely recognized firms: L'Atelier Pierre Thibault, famous Quebec «starchitect» of residential architecture, with several books published about his work; Open-Form architecture, young innovative startup focusing on formal explorations and parametric design; LemayLab, Lemay’s R&D cell including innovation and branding. Currently, Lemay is the largest architectural firm in Quebec and the 76th one worldwide, comprising of more than 400 employees around the world.
Being the son of a cabinetmaker while evolving as an architect allowed me to build a portfolio containing projects of all scales, starting from simple objects, such as chessboard and furniture pieces, through the residential development and additionnaly reaching the scale of an urban public market development, an Olympic stadium and Abu Dhabi Island design'.
Curious by nature, I am interested in innovation, research and development, new best practices, as well as new transdisciplinary fields which gradually integrate design (new technologies, 3D printing, digital tools, ecological constructions, branding, participatory design, new urban planning practices such as healthy urbanism, and urban design such as tactical urbanism, etc.).
The artistic part of my personality helped me to develop the interest for other areas of creation such as: industrial design, fashion design, graphic arts, cabinet making, writing, events design, site installations, etc.
Furthermore, the scientific part of my personality brought about the research-focused interest in human behavior: cognitive sciences and neurosciences, psychology, philosophy, ethology, ethnology, anthropology, neurology, biology, sociology, etc.
Frequently I mae part of jury committee, work as an invited critic and / or lecturer in universities as well as design competitions. Finally I had a chance to teach a class at the School of Architecture of Laval University during the winter semester of 2018. The class was Human Aspects of Architecture, a class aiming to make the link between humans (states of being and behaviors) and the built environment.
In summary, I am a lucid dreamer, who knows how to combine creativity and rigor. I will find the way to land your clouds on earth and materialize your wildest dreams on the tangible ground, feeding myself with constraints, while combining pragmatism and power of synthesis.
